On Killing: The Psychological Cost of Learning to Kill in War and Society

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

Product Description
The good news is that most soldiers are loath to kill. But armies have developed sophisticated ways of overcoming this instinctive aversion. And contemporary civilian society, particularly the media, replicates the army’s conditioning techniques, and, according to Lt. Col. Dave Grossman’s thesis, is responsible for our rising rate of murder among the young.

Upon its initial publication, ON KILLING was hailed as a landmark study of the techniques the military … More >>

Learning the power of knowledge

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010

If you want to know it you must learn it, you must read it in order to learn it.

Learning is all about reading and understanding what you read.  If you know what you are talking about
you can find promotion is an easy thing…

Building knowledge can help your career and improve your prospects for getting a better job.

Many people do not take the time to read or they may claim that they do not have time to read.

The truth is that if you take just 45 min a day to read, you can learn some amazing things.

Spend one less hour in front of the TV and more time reading about a topic that can improve your

ability to get a promotion.

Imagine what you can do if you just make up your mind to do this just a few min a day.

Try it out and see if what I say is not the truth.

Poetry of the Civil War

Monday, June 1st, 2009

A foundation of many modern day writings can be traced to some of these same instances.

The war between the states inspired the poets of the American nation.

Popular writers of the day, such as Henry Wordsworth Longfellow and Ralph Waldo Emerson, wrote verse, as did those for whom recognition lay in the future, most notably Walt Whitman.

CIVIL WAR POETRY includes verse by these celebrated figures as well as some who are now unfamiliar but were well-known in this defining period in America’s history.

Alongside the greats of literature the reader will discover Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr. (father of the future Supreme Court justice), Henry Timrod (“Laureate of the Confederacy”), and Margaret Junkin (sister-in-law of Stonewall Jackson).

This collection includes poems from those who saw direct service, those who sought other means through which to contribute, and those for whom age or sex prevented direct participation. Includes poems by:
- Ambrose Bierce
- William Cullen Bryant
- Ralph Waldo Emerson
- Julia Ward Howe
- Sindey Lanier
- Herman Melville
- James Whitcomb Riley
- Walt Whitman
- John Greenleaf Whittier
- Constance Fenimore Woolson

Beautiful full-color illustrations throughout and short biographies of the poets help put their words into context.

learning, reading, books is there any other way?

Tuesday, May 26th, 2009

Learning is part doing and part knowing, however you have to read in order to know in many cases.

This is difficult in the current hustle bustle world we live in, unless you take the time to read.

Reading only really takes a few moments, which usually turn into minuets.

Reading is by far one of the most widely practiced hobbies today in countries all over the world people read.

People learn by reading, they learn by doing, but most importantly it is the reading of the written word that
we most are able to share our knowledge.

Sharing knowledge is the most important part of the writing of men, read a book today or even just a few pages.

How to Get Your Child to Love Reading

Saturday, May 2nd, 2009

Reading has become less popular, with the advent of portable games, which often do not
support the learning experience, instead we are raising a generation of zombies that sit
around on couches and gain tons of weight, but hey they can really use those thumbs to text.

Get your child interested in reading, dont have raise a zombie

Readers are the really smart people in the world, take from someone who knows.

If you sit in front of the TV and play games, or play portable games, you are not learning a good
lesson. . .

A contest we shall have…

Tuesday, March 10th, 2009

Hello, everyone, I know there are a lot of people that frequent these pages, yet are often silent.

We book readers are often those that go unnoticed, we reside in the back of the elevators silent and hardly ever verbose, yet we are the often the minds that come up with these lines and create strength within even the tiniest of things.

So a contest is in order and it shall not be easy to discover.

Couched within these verbs you will be sure to learn the rules
for what you seek is shiny and sleek but will not be there until you seek.

If you can find where these lines reside in the truth of love, you will be divine.

a gift of concern will be the reward for the attention you have earned.

Look within these pages to find the gift you seek, for life is naught but
tyme and there will yet be time to sleep.

For the time is said to be fleeting and you had better be
retreating, when worlds collide and the tide is alive,
only those without thee this notion can and will survive.

For a mark is said to exist yet, you have none to assist,
pray ye no be left behind.

end of lines.

what shall the prize be you say, that we do not know, prizes or cash you decide the test.

post on this topic and a vote will be taken.

clues that exist in strange places.

some lines will be easy to find, some not so easy, you can follow the stones and find a clue or two left behind by the thoughtful personage you can look and see some will be right in the trees but not all will be found and no gift will abound until all the lines be seen and then seen by me.
