Getting ahead and making the grade

Thursday, September 10th, 2009

If you want to really move in the academic scene, you need more than just knowledge you need intimate knowledge.

The Cambridge Companion to Keats

In The Cambridge Companion to Keats, leading scholars discuss Keats’s work in several fascinating contexts: literary history and key predecessors; Keats’s life in London’s intellectual, aesthetic and literary culture; the relation of his poetry to the visual arts; the critical traditions and theoretical contexts within which Keats’s life and achievements have been assessed. These specially commissioned essays examine Keats’s specific poetic endeavours, his striking way with language, and his lively letters as well as his engagement with contemporary cultures and literary traditions, his place in criticism, from his day to ours, including the challenge he poses to gender criticism. The contributions are sophisticated but accessible, challenging but lucid, and are complemented by an introduction to Keats’s life, a chronology, a descriptive list of contemporary people and periodicals, a source-reference for famous phrases and ideas articulated in Keats’s letters, a glossary of literary terms and a guide to further reading.

The Absorber Synthetic Drying Chamois, 27

The Absorber is NOT a leather chamois. Nor is it a terry cloth towel. But it’s probably the best drying tool you’ll ever discover. The Absorber is made of a unique material called PVA (Poly Vinyl Alcohol). The secret of the Absorber’s power is it’s amazing uniform, sponge-like pore structure throughout the product that enhances capillary action and gives the Absorber it’s super drying ability. Colors may vary.

Everyone Is Entitled to My Opinion by Brinkley, David

Sunday, July 26th, 2009

Astute, acerbic, and wise, David Brinkley is pure pleasure to read–whether he is writing about silly laws proposed in Congress or hilarious confrontations between man and beast. These 180 of his “homilies” offer a distillation of sharp commentary, sympathy for human foibles, and a perceptive eye on what is real and what is false in America today.

Knowing how the other side thinks can be a definite advantage,  even if you do not exactly see eye to eye, reading what they think can be a help in understanding how they come to believe.   Know your opposition and you can succeed even in the most strife filled environment.

250 Ways to Say NO and Mean it!!!

Stop People-Pleasing Forever

The Book of No: 250 Way to Say It–And Mean It

‘It’s been said that ‘What we can’t communicate controls our life.’ If that’s true, then this book will free you. It is one of the most liberating, empowering and practical topics I’ve seen addressed in a decade. And Susan Newman does a masterful job bringing it home’ – Joseph Grenny, “New York Times” bestselling coauthor of “Crucial Confrontations”. A leading psychologist teaches you how to wield the power of “no” and banish the disease to please forever. “The Book of No” teaches you how to say “no” to just about anybody – and everybody – friends, family, bosses, and co-workers – without starting your guiltmeter running. This book provides insights and tips help you understand why you have trouble saying “no” and move beyond what ranges from mildly annoying to a crippling inability. It inoculates you against the “Yes”-disease and offers the courage to refuse and the knowledge and know-how to remain steadfast in that decision in the face of another person’s power, influence, bullying, or disappointment – whether real or perceived. ‘Newman, a social psychologist and teacher (Rutgers Univ.), maintains that the more comfortable people are with saying “no,” the more they will be able to move toward their own goals and live calmer, more fulfilling lives. She dissects 250 common people-pleasing situations with friends, at work, in the family, or with really difficult people and provides the right words to get out of the situation. Newman’s book is well written and sure to help. Strongly recommended for all libraries’ – “Library Journal”

Warehouse 13

Sunday, July 19th, 2009
A new series called warehouse 13 on scy fy on the revamped sci fi channel, or scy fy channel, I think I liked it the old way, but hey what the hay.
There are some similar aspects to this show, the objects, which are evidently contain some magical or paranormal qualities.
It is a little like the hotel thing you remember that a few months ago, but there are some hopeful aspects on this one.
You have an entire warehouse full of all kinds of stuff I think they will need some good writers because so far the writers they have are in need of a little help, I expect they are trying to make another Eureka, if they are successful in that then they will certainly do really well.
There is an older technology that is ultra new, if that makes sense, so far we are on show number 2, and it is certainly of interest.
An old with the new twist type thing.
Throw in a little romantic tension, the good kind, with nice legs and you have a good part two to part one.
Stay tuned, for some extra stuff you will not find anywhere else.

Do you believe in UFOs?

Wednesday, July 15th, 2009

With all the tv shows and all the different opinions about UFOs you have to wonder, however if you take the definition of UFO it really just stands for Unidentified Flying Object, which could in fact be anything at all, anything that is unidentified.

So in reality, there are really two different thoughts on this subject, the one you hear the most about is the theory that aliens are on our planet, and the other one is that in fact, the UFO thing is explainable Unidentified flying objects.

Either way, to date we have not found any substantial evidence that aliens are at the bottom of any UFO sightings, but in the defense of those that do believe, there have been many unexplained sightings, however until we have evidence that defies examination, then we have to say that UFO are in fact just that.
