Ebay Auction knowing when to buy and when to run

If you have been on ebay for years you may already know a lot of this information however, for those that may not know, this article will outline some of the information you want to be aware of when bidding and buying online.

Feedback, one of the most important aspects of making a purchase online is the sellers feedback.

This is usually represented by a number to the right of the sellers name.
Looking at the picture below you can see two numbers.

So as you can see the larger the number the safer you will be, this is not fool proof but it is a good indication of how good your buying experience may be. another indication is the percentage figure which you can see in this example is 99.3 percent which is great by definition mostly by the sheer number of transactions, you know that there is only a .007 percent chance that something may go wrong, a good bet that you can depend on the seller.

Now there are a couple of things you need to be aware of, there are guarantees in place, however what may not be as visible is there are some situations that are not covered, these are not advertised, but you need to be aware of this because if you buy and you did not take the time to check out the sellers feedback and the seller reputation, then you may not be covered by the ebay guarantee.

Zero feedback is a problem as well as the user being there on ebay for less than 30 days.

Most of the time you want someone that has at least 20 feedbacks for items that cost more than 25 bucks.

add to that for every 25 dollars in purchase price, this is not written down anywhere but it is a good guide.

One thing you can do is to contact the seller and ask a question, if the seller never answers your question then you can bet that you may not get the best service from that person, it all depends on the time of the day and the time of the week, if you send off an email to the seller on saturday night at 11 pm, dont look for an answer right away, if you do get one sunday morning then that is a good thing, but dont be disappointed if the seller does not get back to you until monday morning.

On the same issue, if the user takes four to six days to answer your question or if the seller never contacts you then you may not want to do business with them at all, that is a personal decision, but know what the limits are on the ebay guarantee.

There are some items on ebay that are not good auctions, you have to be careful, and read the description, make sure that they are not trying to sell a clone of the actual item you think you are getting, that can happen, it is not always a good thing just because you find an auction at a great price tag.

If something is priced hundreds of dollars below the retail price there may be a reason, it might just be cosmetic, scratches, a dent or a ding, but it could just as easily be something far worse, so be careful and read, beware of auctions that show items that are out of focus, one of the most famous or infamous things you see on ebay is the out of focus item, photo, where it is a little dark and a little blurry and when you get it it is is in bad condition, so watch out for that trick.

Now for the most part you do not see these things but just every one out of 1000 auctions, but you dont want to be that one that gets the bad auction.

Just be careful and watch out and most of the time you will be fine, one thing to watch out for is impossible options on computers, like last year they had some people selling bad auctions, they had these really great sounding auctions, a computer with all the possible options, I mean all of them, retail price $8500.00 and the auction was for 1879.00 well some people had a problem, just remember if it sounds too good to be true then most likely it is, you can usually spot these auctions by looking at the feedback and by looking at the photos of the auction, if it looks like a stock photo, ( a photo that came from a website and not a photo that came from the actual item for sale) then stay away, look for photos that are of the actual item for sale, if you see a notice that states photo may not be the actual item for sale then stay away.
